Second International Conference on Sexual Dimorphism in Cancer

The field of Sexual Dimorphism in Cancer has seen significant advancements, with disparities in cancer incidence, survival rates, and treatment effectiveness being actively researched. The conference focuses on the impact of sex hormones and chromosomes on cancer susceptibility, with an emphasis on (epi)genetics, sex hormones, cancer cell biology, metabolism and the immune system.

The Cancer Prevention Forum took place on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, and raised awareness about different types of cancer (skin, breast and lung cancer) and ways to prevent them.

An Buckinx, PhD

An Buckinx obtained a Bachelor degree in Biomedical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2014, and a Master degree in Biomedical Neuroscience at the University of Antwerp in 2016. She performed the research for her Master thesis at the European Brain Research Institute in Rome. Afterwards, she joined the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Drug Analysis and Drug Information (VUB), where she obtained her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2021, she joined the microglia biology lab at the University of Lausanne as a postdoctoral researcher.


Because of her experience with science communication and societal outreach during her academic research track, An has now joined the International Cancer Prevention Institute as a scientific communication expert.
