Markus is a trained mathematician who works with computational tools to study cancer.
He earned his master’s degree in Vienna in geometry and topology, that is, “the study of shapes”. After discovering his passion for network science, a field that reduces complex systems to pairwise interaction patterns, Markus worked on using network science in biology in Barcelona, focusing on protein interactions. Now, he’s part of CANCERPREV in Lausanne, where his research focuses on developing algorithms to detect cyclic gene expression changes to understand emergent properties in cancer development.
