FIELD CANCERIZATION AND TISSUE REMODELING<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Field cancerization<\/strong>\u00a0is a condition of major clinical significance, closely linked to\u00a0aging and the progressive acquisition of genetic and epigenetic changes<\/strong>, in which tissues are transformed into cancer-prone states that generate multiple and recurrent lesions. Our program investigates how\u00a0common determinants of this process across cancer and stromal cells<\/strong> interact with organismal determinants, including\u00a0sex and inherited genetic background<\/strong>. We study how cancer-prone states are sustained through\u00a0epigenetic forms of biological memory, and how this memory can be reversed<\/strong>, with the ultimate goal of therapeutically redirecting cancer-prone tissue states.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

LOBULAR BREAST CANCER & PREVENTION<\/strong><\/a><\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invasive lobular breast cancer<\/strong> is a distinct and understudied form of breast cancer, strongly influenced by hormonal signaling and interactions with the surrounding tissue microenvironment<\/strong>. Our program investigates the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of lobular breast cancer, using physiologically relevant experimental models to uncover hormonal and stromal determinants of disease<\/strong>. By identifying vulnerabilities that distinguish lobular from other forms of breast cancer, we aim to develop new approaches for risk reduction, prevention and targeted intervention<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
